CDR FAQ′s

How long is the camp day?

Your child will be at camp from approximately 9:15am-4:00pm Monday through Friday (not including transportation time.) However, the camp day begins before your child will even set foot in CDR! When your child gets on the bus each morning, he or she will be met with fun games and great programs for the ride to and from camp with our qualified bus counselors.

What are my camper's transportation options?

  1. Door to door transportation (applicable to most towns within Morris & Essex Counties) for your child to and from camp (door to door is only guaranteed for campers whose applications are received by April 2013)
  2. Centralized transportation for your child to and from camp from either the Cooperman JCC in West Orange or Lautenberg Family Center on the Aidekman Campus in Whippany. Parent Transportation is always available should you choose to drive and pick up your camper daily.

Will I have to send my child to camp with lunch?

No need! Camp Deeny Riback will provide your camper with a Full Kosher Hot/Cold lunch daily complemented by a full salad bar, plain pasta, tuna & soy-butter and jelly sandwiches.

How long does a "session" run at camp?

CDR offers 4, 6, 7 or 8 week sessions. For the summer of 2013, our full 8 week program will run from July 1 - August 23. Campers who are enrolled for 4 weeks, must be enrolled for the first four or second four consecutive weeks. Campers who are enrolled for 6 or more weeks, can pick and choose which weeks they would like.

Does Camp Deeny Riback offer a Special Needs program?

ABSOLUTELY! CDR takes great pride in sharing information regarding our "Camp Friends" Inclusion program for campers with mild to moderate special needs. In this program your child is mainstreamed in a camp group enjoying all that camp has to offer. Your child is assigned a one-on-one Shadow Counselor to assist with all needs and to help your child find success in the program. Generally speaking, it is often difficult to distinguish the Shadow Counselor from the General Counselor as the group is designed to work as a fluid and cohesive group. This program is offered for campers in PreK through Grade 6. To make sure we're the right fit for your camper, an interview and acceptance into the program is required. For more information, please contact the camp office! This shadow program was made possible in part by support from 2011 LIT "Big Give", Anonymous Donors, and MetroWest ABLE through a grant from the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey. MetroWest ABLE is convened by United Jewish Communities of MetroWest New Jersey.

I'm not sure my young camper is ready for the 5 day experience; do you have any other options?

For our youngest campers, we also provide a 3-day option where your child can explore all the magic that CDR has to offer in half the time! For more information on our 3-day option, please contact the camp office!

Is there medical staff on site?

CDR has a full-time Healthcare Director on site who is a certified EMT.

What should my camper bring with him or her to camp every day?

Every camper should come to camp with 2 bathing suits (we recommend coming to camp already wearing one) and 2 towels. We recommend campers leave labeled sunscreen and extra clothes (if needed) in their cubby. Please have everything from their sunscreen to socks labeled with your child's first and last name.

Is there a camp uniform?

Each camper will get one complimentary official 2013 CDR Camp T-Shirt. Additional shirts may be purchased by contacting the camp office and through the camp store. Campers are required to wear the CDR camp shirt on any off-site trip or picture day. Closed-toe sneakers are required daily and sandals / flip flops are only permitted in the pool area. "Keens" are not appropriate for participation in most daily activities.

What accreditations or certifications does CDR have?

  1. American Camping Association Accredited Day Camp
  2. American Red Cross Certified Aquatics Program
  3. National Archery Association Certified
  4. Certified High-Ropes Challenge Course

What does it mean to be an American Camping Association (ACA) Certified Camp?

ACA Accreditation means that our camp regularly undergoes a thorough (up to 300 standards) review of its operation - from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. American Camp Association collaborates with experts from The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth service agencies to assure that current practices at the camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation. Camps and ACA form a partnership that promotes summers of growth and fun in an environment committed to safety.

How can I be involved in my camper's experience?

At CDR, the support and dedication of our parents is paramount. We are fortunate to have a year-round group of parents who work towards achieving all the great innovations and upgrades our campers can enjoy summer after summer. The CAMP COMMITTEE is already busy getting ready for the 2013 summer. Our 2013 committee chair is Vivian Greenfogel, who will guide our committee throughout the year. If you are interested in joining the camp committee, please contact the camp office!
